John Alexander

Founder and CEO

John's bio -- the short form: Born prematurely in a snow storm in Lincoln, Nebraska, moved almost immediately to Indiana. The path from there lead through Muscogee, OK (pre-school), Greewood, MA (1st-3rd grade), Kensington, MD (4th - High School), Rice University in Houston, TX (BA Math), UC Berkeley (PhD Math), Bolder, CO (Math Faculty), and finally to Austin, TX (Math Faculty at UT, IBM Marketing, wptc). He's married and has two (adult) daughters (UT Med School and UT Law School). John's major interests are the publishing of GIS information on the Internet and what it would take to make a web search answer the question: " what is the zoning at 3305 hancock drive 78731 ". He likes the A's, Patriots (ok maybe the Jags too), Spurs, Cormac McCarthy, Numb3rs, Gyorgi Ligeti and strong black coffee. He either rides his bike, runs or walks to work -- except on creative Thursdays. He stays home then. When he's desperate for business, he bakes chocolate chip cookies for classes or Fun Friday.

This is not Valerie. It is a stock photo from somewhere.

Valerie Warwick

President

Valerie's bio -- the short form: Born and raised in Round Rock, Austin and San Antonio. She attended Texas Tech University, worked in the Tech Library (Lubbock), a state agency (Austin) and has been with wptc since 1988. Her skills focus on ArcGIS desktop and field applications with a heavy minor in C# and ASP.Net. She's had certifications as an ArcMap instructor (ESRI) and MCSE (Microsoft -- note: both John and Valerie were MSCE's in the late 90's to about 2002. Studying for certification was critical to their understanding of the issues of deploying GIS or Web applications in a Microsoft environment.) She has three daughters and one grandson. She's written multiple mobile or Internet GIS editing applications. She's written a fire tracking application (based on ArcMap) and managed the state wide deployment and training of its use. She wrote a secure workflow that uploads data (shape files and profile) in zip formats, decompresses and inspects the contents (C# libraries and OGR tools), handles exceptions, and queues the shapefile in a ArcGIS Server queue. Each element in the queue is handled by a geoprocessing script that is based on its profile. Customers come to wptc because John dazzled them somehow, but they always end up wanting to work with Valerie!

Life @ wptc

We work hard and play hard and study hard. We probably spend way too much time experimenting. We like what we do and hope that we communicate our enthusiasm and energy to the people we work with. We're too old and jaded to even attempt to smoke anyone about our skills and capabilities. If we can't do it, are too busy, or, more important, aren't interested, we'll tell you. But we won't be rude -- we'll see what we can do to get you help.

where we work...
